Lester E. Davis Jr.

Lester Elwood "Butch" Davis, Jr., 71 years old of West Lafayette passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in St. Anthony's Healthcare.

He was born September 4, 1940 in Ambia, Indiana to the late Lester Elwood Davis, Sr. and Martha Louise (Craig) Davis, who survives.

Butch graduated from Southwestern High School in 1958. He then joined the Coast Guard and served his country from 1960 to 1962, when he was honorably discharged.

Butch's first marriage was to Patricia Johnson from 1964 to 1970. His second marriage was to Carol Slipher from 1975 to 1986. They survive.

He was the Director of Environmental Services for Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour, In. for 16 years before retiring in 1999. Butch had previously owned his own restaurant in Danville, IL called “The Barn” and he had also worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital. He also worked for Lafayette Type Setting after serving in the Coast Guard.

Butch enjoyed spending his time cooking, golfing, and his Boston Terrier, Abby.

Surviving with his mother are his children, Jodie Hicks (Kevin O'Brien) of Lafayette, Roger Davis (Holly Benedict) of Lafayette, Kerry Davis (wife: Barbara) of Indianapolis, Michael Davis (wife: Brandi) of Houston, Texas, and Michelle Davis of North Vernon, Indiana; brothers, Bob Davis and Ed Davis of Lafayette. Also surviving, are 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Davis.

Funeral Information

A Memorial Service will be held at Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m. on Saturday, with Pastor Richard McQuinn officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m.
