David E. Besse, 85 of Logansport, formerly of Kewanna, passed away peacefully at 12:46 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 in Miller's Merry Manor. He was born September 15, 1924 in Pulaski, Indiana, Son of the late Arthur Besse and the late Catherine Silvers. He was married Nov. 20, 1947. to Annetta M. Smith Besse, who preceded him in death on August 16, 1999. David was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII on the USS Iowa and USS Helena in the Asiatic Pacific Theater (8 stars) and the Phillipine Liberation (2 stars). Working until the age of 77, David retired from TM Morris and had worked many years as a truck driver for Charlie VanMeter, Siddall and Moyer Trucking. He had also worked for Muehlhausen Bros. spring factory. In earlier years, he served as the Kewanna town marshal. David also called Bingo for 37 years in the area. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Kewanna. Surviving are 2 Daughters, Claudia Winegardner of Logansport, Debbie McGee and her husband Roy, of South Mudd Lake; Son, David D. Besse of Kewanna, IN; 6 Grandchildren, Christina Hickman, Jane Klimes (Tony Homburg), Anna Winegardner (Jason Reese), Felicia Besse, Roy McGee, and Jeremiah Besse; one step-grandchild, Miriam Winegardner; ten great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Pat Koons of Logansport, Mathilda Lamb, of Kewanna, and Jospehine Illingsworth, of Fowler; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, infant Joseph, Charles and Leo Besse; two sisters, Delores Foerg and Sister Marian; one son-in-law, Samuel Winegardner; one grandson-in-law, Jason Klimes; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Smith; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Chester and Violet Smith. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday morning in the funeral chapel. A funeral service will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, at 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, with Father Mike McKinney officiating. Following the funeral service, full military honors will be conducted around the funeral home flag pole. |
